Welcome to Southern African
Young Water Professionals
Achieving distinction by connecting all young water professionals striving for personal and professional evolution
Thank you for making the 3rd SA YWP Regional Conference a HUGE success!
We would like to once again thank all of the delegates and sponsors who made this event possible. The quality of presentations was outstanding and your energy and enthusiasm was infectious!
Prof. Eugene Cloete, Vice Rector, Research and Innovation at Stellenbosch University, delivered an inspiring opening plenary entitled: Eco –nomics, water and development. He described how WEALTH (Water, Energy, Agriculture, Land, Technology and Health) can allow us to move towards a better and more sustainable future.
The Green Matter workshop, entitled: Surviving in the cross sector: Developing trans-disciplinary skills in the water and biodiversity sectors, was both inspirational and very informative for young professionals striving to develop their skills and find their place in the world or work.
Mine water related sessions, sponsored by the WRC, allowed a range of insightful presentations that addressed real issues in Southern Africa.
The Water Olympics was another huge success, as participants competed against each other with spirit and enthusiasm blazing. It was a wonderful way for YWPs to get to know each other and is an event that we hope to bring to our future conferences. YWPs then put on their dancing shoes for the formal Black Tie Ball at the Stellenbosch Town Hall, and enjoyed a night of fine food, funny photos, and great music.
The closing panel, sponsored by DST, saw distinguished professionals Dr Anthony Turton, Dr Kevin Winter, and Dr Jennifer Molwantwa, discuss the wide range of components and complexities involved in 'Unpacking the many faces of water cooperation in a South African context'.
We would like to congratulate all delegates for the quality of their work, especially those who were awarded the three main recognitions of the conference:
We look forward to seeing you at the next regional conference. Until then, please join us during provincial SA YWP events across Southern Africa!

The Young Water Professionals programme offers practical and effective ways for those interested in a career in the water sector to follow their interests and experiences.
The YWP Programme presents many opportunities for career development at workshops and online initiatives. These activities help you to develop your skills and expand your network of colleagues and associates.
We provide opportunities for young professionals to network in social and professional environments. Participants can present their work in a peer to peer learning environment at conferences and forums. Our newsletters will keep you connected with your community.
The programme also helps employers recruit and retain young professionals. The programme hosts a suit of initiatives to support the development of the future workforce in the water sector.
